There are women execs who receive top pay...they just choose not to live in CT. Too smart?
Concerned Parent April 19, 2014 at 10:22 pm
Any MAN or WOMAN who can aspire to become and work to retain the role of a CEO deserves the money heRead More or she receives. Any MAN or WOMAN has the ability to achieve, it's up to them to make it happen. It's those that DO and not those that SAY who succeed. That's the BIG difference between those who've gained wealth thru hard work vs. those who fight for entitlements.

When taxes are imposed on various industries then to stay in business the prices increase on theRead More consumer! Obamacare , gas taxes, payroll taxes, tolls, the proposed soda and candy tax , your tobacco tax is 75% of what the product really costs! Commercial Property tax increases! Do you people see what's going on here? This country is being destroyed by the Democrats! It is starting to resemble The a Soviet Union! We should change the name of this country to the USSA!

Mark, Your words are absolutely disgusting. Please do not use this comment thread as a vehicle toRead More spew your racist mentality. And for your information, food-borne illnesses come from agriculture, period. All around the world, including in the U.S. Lastly, your hatred for people of colour does not mean that you understand disease, at all. Good luck in life.

Get back on topic. And while you're at it cut the condescending, holier-than-thou, I'm smarter thatRead More you, intellectual pinhead act. You don't want to hear others ideas and opinions. We are somehow not on your level. The only jihad is yours. Your posts speak volumes. Thanks in advance.
Joe Blow April 7, 2014 at 07:15 pm
Hey Reyn, you write a lot but say nothing then follow up with some insult or name calling, typicalRead More liberal B.S. What you refer to "jihad" is me laying out the truth that you choose to ignore while trying to cover it up with your circle talk or backpedaling. You are a weak coward like all liberal loons who backdoor everything.

Hey Tabasco and Reyn, maybe this will help put things in perspective for you and give you a simpleRead More understanding of the working middle class getting raped by the gubbmint. Well Larry, I read your blog and have some mixed feelings on the subject. First, the human body isRead More not intended to be a herbivore (you can start by looking at your teeth which are intended to rip and eat meat). Having said that, I'm not sure the crap they sell in stores these days would constitute as "meat" and the slop they sell at fast food places is even worse. Your blogs references to your grandparents and parents ways to obtain meat is the school I come from. We eat a lot of venison and the chicken, pork and beef we eat are all farm raised and butchered by myself. I do all my own cutting and packaging as well as the processing. Yes, I do make my own hotdogs and other processed meats.

They are laying off massively in Maryland. Why in the world would they come to the highest taxedRead More state is what I can't figure out. Then again probably some quid pro quo behind the scenes between the 2 idiot Gov's.

They laid off hundreds in CT as well - to go to Maryland! Someone I know was laid off recently -Read More except it wasn't a layoff, they offered him a job - it was a DEMOTION in Maryland. Way to go, Verizon. Glad my phone is AT&T.

@Joe Mancini - What the heck are you talking about? Duchess sells Alcohol? Salads cause LiverRead More disease? McDonalds coffee causes impaired driving? So alcohol is good for the liver and kidneys? Please put down the shot and beer it is STILL illegal to drink and drive. I don't think its illegal to eat an apple pie from McDonalds. Never mind high, your plastered, put down the beer tap, sober up, realize your addiction and enjoy a glass of water for a change. You may need some detox before you stop cold turkey, you can die if you don't ween off it if you drink alcohol daily for a long period of time. Breweries are NOT THE ANSWER.
Joe Mancini April 16, 2014 at 05:36 pm
@OpportunistWatch-Thanks for the laugh. Yes, people go to McDonalds for the salads like men go toRead More strip clubs for the free buffet. The "food" McDonalds serves is so loaded with chemicals that have to be metabolized through the liver and filtered by the Kidneys, this leads to disease as well as diabetes. But you continue on your crusade against people enjoying a brew every now and then and go eat your salad at McDonalds.
Arek Wenta April 16, 2014 at 10:04 pm
Yeah the buffets are great! Not to mention the obscene amount of salt in their foods which isRead More contributing greatly to a slew of health problems. And beer in moderation is actually good for you. In more ways than one. Since when are motor vehicle deaths an inevitable outcome of a brewery? Just because they make it doesn't mean you have to drink it. Cars don't go kill people on their own, they need someone with a good dose of idiot to do it for them. Which you, opportunist, have plenty of. Plus, with the rate at which craft breweries are growing it's an excellent venture to pursue and boost our economy.

United Technologies will invest as much as 4.5 billion dollars in Connecticut over the next 5 years.Read More They are collecting 400 mio in income credits. United Technologies expects to make net 6.3billion dollars in 2014 and 6.9 bio in 2015. Ct has a state corporate income tax of 7.5% meaning they pay in just corporate income tax about 500mio a year. (and will receive under 30 mio a year for the next 14 -meaning net the corporation will be paying Connecticut treasury net 470 million a year. Obviously their executives and employees also pay tax; also use services in Ct -which then leads to more business for many . Could you help me understand how you subsidize United Technologies? A company is not a person. They dont use education. Etc. Sounds like you think we would be all better off if these corporations left, and you stopped subsidizing them? You honestly think that if the top 30 corporations in Ct left you would have a smaller tax bill?
Harry February 27, 2014 at 10:37 pm
Porter, if the 7.5% rate is to high for theses specific companies, why isn't the rate reduced forRead More all corporations in the state? Maybe I'm a bit confused on subsidies / credits, But wasn't part of the deal that we would be building new facilities for them? Who is paying for that? I don't want one business to leave the state nor do I believe that we should bribe anyone to stay. If the rate is to high for Pratt then it's too high for everyone. Is there anywhere we can find out the exact amount that Pratt paid to the state of ct for year 2013?

It looks like she’s raising money and giving it to herself.” [No kidding!] “..Rosa DeLauro has established a persona of being a champion of the safety net while at the same time being a champion of amassing great wealth for herself and her husband [Stanley Greenberg] during her tenure in office.”

Guilford residents: It's time to "lawyer Up". to oppose this. If you were at the veryRead More crowded Inland Wetlands Board meeting Feb 12, you know what I mean. If its not already too late. Second, do you do business now with JJ Sullivan? Will you still after that fiasco meeting? They didn't send the letters out in time? February 15, 2014 at 11:45 PM Excellent approach Bruce and Heather. Attack J.J. Sullivan at itsRead More economic base--but unfortunately, there loss off revenue from the immediate community is most likely modest, and basically, the rest of Guilford really has limited knowledge of the town's western face, if they care at all. The crux of the problem here is the ignorance of the P&Z, combined with Sullivan's stupidity in allowing a propane depot into any residential area of Guilford. Forgetting that the fools have approved placing an industrial site on a landfill that in fact, is the headwaters source of one of the town's major wetlands waterways, almost one third of the postage stamp property is a major wetlands pond. The two propane tanks, filled with 60,000 gallons of explosive gas, are a mere 50 feet away from this water source! Moreover, J.J. plans to park up to seven bob-tail delivery trucks less than 20 feet off Moose Hill Road--each truck most likely stored overnight with about 2,600 gallons of propane, One wrong turn in the neighborhood, frequently traveled by emergency vehicles, and there won't be a West Guilford. Everyone believes that these propane depots are safe. They have a reasonable record, but they aren't like J.J.'s oil tanks. The common practice of tank-to-tank transfers, plus frequent truck-to-truck transfers have resulted in major explosions. P&Z hasn't a clue. A recent explosion of a facility in Toronto, Canada--one very similar in size to J.J.'s idiotic plan, required 34 fire trucks, 200 firefighters and damaged home in a one mile radius, plus scores of cituy buses to muster evacuation. The costs were almost $2 million in damages paid by guess who, the taxpayers, not to ignore civil suits ramping up over $300 million. Clearly, Guilford IS ABSOLUTELY NOT prepared on an emergency basis to accommodate this asinine, ill-connived plan that might net the town a reported $30K a year in taxes! Good grief how much are those fire trucks again? And where is Guilford going to get those buses? Not to mention the traffic lights, emergency evacuation plan--and we haven't even touched the fact that J.J.'s overflow will be condemning Hoadley Creek all the way down to Long Island Sound. The only thing that can stop this idiocy is the Wetlands Commission simply with their combined common sense, or an injunction--which the 150 ticked-off taxpayers I witnessed last week are bound to achieve.
