A Conservative Voice

It's time for a true conservative voice in Guilford.  Many of our so called Republicans have come to be RINO's-Republican's In Name Only.  While I  believe many of these folks truly believe they are good Conservative Republicans,  the annual increase in the size of Guilford's government and their own voting record shows otherwise.

Most recently, a leader in Guilford's GOP touted that several years ago the Republican lead Board of Selectmen and State Senate Candidate/ Select Woman Cynthia Cartier voted on the Town side of the budget for a 0% increase. WOW, good for them!  When is the last time we reduced the size or even attemped to reduce the size of government?  Many of us have had to tighten up on our spending habbits while the economy has been in the toilet.  Why shouldn't government?

In a few months, all of the Town Departments and the Schools will be starting to plan for the 2013/2014 budget.  While its easy to criticize government, I will admit that solutions are difficult.  But here's at least 1 idea.  Guilford's Park & Rec Dept.  The department has a budget this year of $1.3M but only plans to collect $94k in revenue.  Why do the tax payers need to subsidize this department for $1.2M?

Keep in mind, Park & Rec runs virtually NO sports in town.  Baseball/Softball, Football, Soccer, Lacrosse, Basketball are all run by individual sports clubs.  Park & Rec also reports NO fee income from the activities/clinics it does run on its revenue line.  Only revenue is boat rack rental, room rental for parties in the community center and beach passes.  THAT's IT!  Strangely though, the sports clubs do contribute to Park & Rec's field maintence, that we pay for, but that revenue doesn't show up to off set their subsidy.  Why?

Maybe you have ideas too, but year over year, the size of Government can not continue to increase. Where do you see that government can be reduced?
