Sen. Meyer Congratulations Local Scholarship Winners

Three High School Seniors in the 12th District awarded $1,000 Comcast scholarships

The following is a press release from Sen. Meyer's office on May 2:

College education got a little bit more affordable today for 44 High School Seniors in Connecticut who were awarded $1,000 “Leaders and Achievers” scholarships by the Comcast Foundation. Senator Meyer (D-Guilford) took the opportunity to congratulate the three students from his district who were awarded scholarships and present them with citations from the entire General Assembly applauding their accomplishment.

“I am very happy for all of the students recognized today for their scholastic accomplishments and involvement in their communities,” said Senator Meyer. “Pursuing an education is an important step toward achieving your goals in life, and I am very excited to see what the future holds for these young leaders.”

The Comcast Leaders and Achievers program has been awarding scholarships to ambitious High School Seniors since 2001.

This year’s scholarship winners were selected by their principals and guidance counselors for their positive involvement in both their schools and communities. Students were selected based on their community service work, academic achievements, and leadership skills.

Since its inception, the Leaders and Achievers program has awarded $19 million to 19,000 students across the United States. This year Comcast has committed close to $2 million in scholarships for nearly 1,900 students.
