Report: Guilford Residence Among Targeted Homes in String of 'Open House' Thefts

According to multiple news sources, two women who posed as a mother and daughter allegedly stole valuable items from homes at open houses throughout CT and NY, including a home on Barnshed Lane in Guilford back in February.

On August 23, Guilford Police served an active arrest warrant to Angela, Ruitto, 26 of Old Saybrook, for her alleged involvement in thefts across Connecticut and New York during Open Houses, according to The Day. Ruitto has been charged with third-degree larceny and is set to appear in court later this month.

According to The New Haven Register, Ruitto and a Deep River woman would check real estate listings and attend open houses under the premise that they were a mother and daughter looking to buy the home. Instead, they allegedly took the opportunity to steal valuable items and medication from the homes.

The Register reports that one of the homes allegedly targeted included a home on  Barnshed Lane in Guliford back in February.

Ruitto was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, but failed to appear. The case was continued until Sept. 20.
