Police Officer Recovering From Wounds Sustained During Shoreline Gunfight

State Police Detective Scott Wisner, a 21-year veteran of the Department suffered gunshot wounds. He was transported from the scene by a fellow Trooper to the nearby Shoreline Medical Center.

Connecticut State Police have identified the officers involved in a shooting on April 8, 2013, which occurred following a police chase of two suspects in an armed robbery in Old Saybrook. 

State Police Detective Scott Wisner, a 21-year veteran of the Department suffered gunshot wounds. He was transported from the scene by a fellow Trooper to the nearby Shoreline Medical Center. Wisner suffered severe but non-life threatening injuries and is recovering, state police said in a press release.

One of the male suspects who was shot by police was transported to the same medical facility where he was later pronounced deceased. A second male suspect was transported by Lifestar helicopter to Hartford Hospital for treatment of severe injuries. 

Sgt. Keith Graham, a 14-year veteran of the State Police, has been assigned to administrative duties pending the completion of this investigation. The investigation is being led by the Office of the State’s Attorney and the Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crime Unit.

On April 8, 2013, shortly before 3 p.m., the Old Saybrook Police Department responded to an armed robbery incident at the Days Inn on Boston Post Road in their town. Information obtained identified two armed male suspects.  

Old Saybrook Police Officers identified a suspect vehicle leaving the area which then engaged them in a motor vehicle pursuit. State Police Troopers responded to the area to assist in this incident. The pursued vehicle fled onto Rt. 153 (Essex Road) in Westbrook where it became involved in a motor vehicle collision with a State Trooper’s vehicle.    

Following this collision, gunfire was exchanged between two male suspects and a State Trooper. In attempts to apprehend the suspects, a State Trooper was shot.
