Police Crackdown on ATV Violations in Guilford

On May 4, in a muti-jurisdictional event, Guilford Police conducted an operation to target illegal activities of ATVs and dirt bikes in the area.

On May 4, the Guilford Police Department conducted a multi-jurisdictional ATV event according to a recent press release from the Guilford PD. They worked in conjunction with the CT State Police, North Branford Police Department, ENCON Police Department, Regional Water Authority Police Department, and the Guilford Land Trust

The release stated that the purpose of the operation was to prevent damage to the town, state and Regional Water Company properties due to the illegal activities of ATVs and dirt bikes. Police and other agencies have recently, and continually, been responding to calls reporting these activities involving noise complaints, trespassing and damage to the properties.

The press release explained that the State Police Fixed Wing Airplane was used to locate the ATVs in the wooded areas and track them back to their homes without the need for a dangerous pursuit. Additionally, The Water Company Officers used their Ranger to maneuver through the trails to catch riders deep in the woods safely.

Though the department has not released the names or details of the charges involved in this particular operation, they stated in the press release that residents "should be aware that they will be cited for criminal trespassing, should they chose to operate their ATVs on these properties. There can be licensing repercussions, infractions and misdemeanor charges filed against the operator and the ATVs will be towed."

Patch will follow up with additional details if and when they become available.
