Two New Vehicles for Guilford Police Department

Guilford Police Department receives two 2013 Ford Explorer Police interceptors to replace older vehicles. They are expected to operate more effectively in extreme weather conditions and be more fuel efficient.

The Guilford Police Department has just received two 2013 Ford Explorer Police Interceptors. They will be replacing two Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptors, from 2007 and 2008, which are no longer in production.

The new Fords are built and designed to operate as police vehicles, versus other consumer models that have been tweaked in the past to meet police requirements.

"We expect them to operate better in demanding weather conditions and to be more fuel efficient than the older Crown Victoria," said a Press Release from the Department. "The new vehicles were selected by the Guilford Police Commission following a review of available models. While Ford also offered a police vehicle based upon the smaller Taurus platform, it did not meet the specific needs of the Guilford Police Department, including prisoner transportation and equipment storage."

"Guilford police officers Scott Gardner, Chris Massey, and Mark Thompson polled other officers to develop vehicle design and layouts that will enhance efficiency and safety for the officers on the street," concluded the Press Release. This will include reflective decals and other lighting that will allow for increased officer visibility.
