More Than 15 Vehicles Targeted in Overnight Thefts

Guilford Police are asking residents to remain vigilant, and to take steps to protect their personal property.

Guilford Police say the common denominator in a slew of overnight thefts from vehicles was this: all of the vehicles were unlocked and they were parked in driveways.

Items were stolen from more than 15 vehicles in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 1, on Davis Drive, Horseshoe Road and Cornfield Lane.

Police said they first got a call from a resident in the Sunrise Development on Davis Drive for a report of suspicious activity. The caller indicated that a car door was heard closing in the driveway, police said.

"Officers arrived within minutes of the call and did not locate anyone in the area," Lt. John E. Dunn said. "The car in question had its interior light on and had been entered."

"Throughout the course of the morning, over 15 more complaints came in from that area involving entered vehicles and stolen items from vehicles," Dunn said. "All of the vehicles entered were unlocked and parked in driveways on Davis Drive, Horseshoe Road and Cornfield Lane."

A number of items were reported stolen, including cash, wallets, passports, and sunglasses.

"The Guilford Police Department would like to remind the residents of our community to always secure their vehicles when parked and always remove any items of value from the vehicle," Dunn said.
