Guilford Police to Offer 2013 Citizens' Police Academy in March

Guilford Police will launch their 2013 Citizens' Police Academy March 7th. Applications are now available at Guilford Police Station front desk and online on the department's website, and are due by Feb. 28.

 

Interesting in learning more about our town's police department? How about law enforcement? Well, here's your chance: The Guilford Police Department will be offering their 8 week 2013 Citizens' Police Academy begining on March 7 and running through April 25 (classes will not meet April 18.) 

The class is open to all Guilford residents 16 and over, and is limited to 30 people. The class will be held every Thursday night at Guilford Police Headquarters, from 7 PM to 9 PM.

According to their website officers from the Department will instuct participants in these areas during the program:

  • Program Introduction & Tour of Facility
  • Introduction to Criminal Justice
  • Patrol Procedues & D.W.I.
  • General investigative Techniques
  • Drugs, Alcohol & D.A.R.E.
  • Crime scene, Fingerprinting & Crime Prevention
  • Guest Speaker - To be announced
  • Computers in Policing & Motor Vehicle Law 

The website also states that after 'graduation' from the program, Citizens' will participate in a Ride-Along program.

If you're interested in the program, applications can be found at the Guilford Police Station front desk, or on their website. Applications are due no later than Feb. 28. The department has also specified that all applicants are subject to a background investigation.
