Guilford Man Charged with Enticing a Minor to Engage in Sexual Activity

Guilford Police took a man into custody for allegedly soliciting sex with a 15-year-old girl Wednesday.

Edwin Nealon, 21, of 98 Leetes Island Road, was arrested and charged Wednesday with enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity.

On Wednesday night, Nov. 14, at approximately 4 p.m., Nealon was arrested and charged by members of the Guilford Police Detective Unit, according to a press release. Charges included two counts of criminal attempt including the use of a computer to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity, risk of injury/ impairing the morals of a child, and interfering with an officer.

Nealon's case began back in October 2012, when police said he contacted a party he believed to be a 15-year-old female child via the Internet. Based on information gained during the investigation, police determined that Mr. Nealon was planning on meeting the the female party in Guilford Wednesday afternoon.

Undercover detectives from the Guilford Police Department set up surveillance in the area Wednesday, and Mr. Nealon arrived shortly after to allegedly meet the potential victim. He was taken into custody without incident. Detective Tim Bernier, Detective Fred Hill, and Detective Sgt. Jeff Provencher made the arrest.

According to the press release, Nealon was processed and released on a $20,000 bond. He was given a court date of Nov. 27, at New Haven Superior Court.

Sounds like the kid fell into a police dragnet. I am sure the 21 year old looks and feels like a contemporary of the imaginary 15 year old. This certainly does not condone his attempt to date "her" but begs the question, was there ever a real victim or were the officers masquerading as a child online for lack of more meaningful work?

Interesting point, Sanity. Was the kid charged with attempting to date a child or attempting to date a cop posing as a child? If the latter is the case, who is the victim? Is the cop of age? Was he trying to entice or ensnare the 21 year old? How was the cop victimized? This whole scenario looks like a bad episode of "the three stooges".

Perhaps the police need to get off line and arrest some real criminals. Of course that would require that they put themselves in danger and possibly alleviate the suffering of a REAL victim. Too much to ask, I know.

At the very least the officers succeeded in scaring up some much needed good press for themselves. Sadly, they had to drag a kid's name through the mud to do it. *sigh*

I would love to see the look on the judge's face after reading the online transcripts.

This is how my tax dollars are spent? To pay the salaries of a bunch of useless policemen who manufacture crime instead of solving it? What has the world come to? It sounds like the police are setting up good citizens and allowing the real criminals free reign!!!

Wow. I've never read so many different ways to defend a child molester! "Lazy police should do real work?" You people are INSANE!
Poland November 16, 2012 at 10:53 PM
Marty, it appears as if the police are trying to frame a 21 year old kid for arranging a date with a cop in drag... There was no molestation and no attempt at molestation. Only a cop pretending to be a 15 year old girl accepting a date with a 21 year old young man. Little slow on the uptake, Marty?

Marty are you by chance a member of our illustrious Guilford P.D.? You sure sound like a cop with hurt feelings. It must smart to have gone to such lengths to stage a heroic event for oneself only to be found out and ridiculed at a later date. I guess most folks have higher I.Q.'s than you do. Sorry for the disappointing news, but it appears as if there is no victim

You are all RIGHT! It takes an astronomical IQ to understand that a 21 year old setting up a date for sex with what he believes to be a 15 year old is A-okay! Being the moron I am, however, I can't help thinking this is a BAD thing. Have you people never heard of Chis Hansen and Dateline? Have you ever heard of sting operations where people get caught trying to set up hits on their spouses? Should all of THOSE people go free, too? After all, there is no victim! It astounds me that I live in a community that actually gets UPSET at the police for trying to prevent a sex-crime. You all are amoral weirdos who have seriously warped world-views.
