Clear a Fire Hydrant for the Guilford Fire Department; 'Help Us Help You' Contest In Full Swing!

Guilford Patch spotted this 'Help Us Help You' Contest on the Guilford Fire Department Facebook page, and we've got all the details for you- including the fun prize for the winner. Hint: It involves a ride in a fire truck.

How Many Fire Hydrants Can You Clear Snow Away From? One, two, seven? Submit your cleared hydrant photos to the Guilford Fire Department and if you clear the most hydrants, you'll win a super fun prize: a Guilford Fire Department hat, a tour of the firehouse, and a ride around the firehouse in a fire truck. What kid wouldn't love that?

"I started the contest for something fun the residents could get involved in that would promote safety, and help us out," John Planas, Guilford Firefighter/Paramedic told Guilford Patch. "We figured residents were stuck in their homes, kids were off from school."

Given the great response they've recieved, GFD will run the contest until Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 6 PM.

"Whoever can submit the most cleared hydrant photos, with locations and the shoveler identified, will win," explaing Planas.

Not only is the contest fun, it's also extremely helpful for the Fire Department, the town, as well as general safety. "This is so important since fire hydrants are our primary water source for fighting fires," Planas said. "During the storm we were very busy responding to numerous calls and just did not have the time to clear any fire hydrants during the storm. Our priority was making sure we answered every emergency call."

"This is a great way for residents to get involved, particularly the kids," concluded Planas. "We are so grateful for the support from residents and their willingness to lend us a hand."
