Vista to Host Simulcast of Hilibrand Autism Symposium

The Seventh Annual UJA-Federation of New York Hilibrand Autism Symposium will take place on Tuesday, April 1st from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Although the symposium itself will be in New York City, a number of host sites across the country will be simulcasting the all-day event. Vista Vocational & Life Skills Center, located at 107 Bradley Road in Madison, will serve as one of the host sites for this year’s symposium. Additionally, Linda Rogen, Vista’s Director of Programs and Services, and Helen Bosch, Vista’s Executive Director, will be presenting at the symposium on the topic of “Employer Relationships.”

The theme of this year’s symposium is “Carving a Place in the World for Young Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders.” Every adult wants to lead a meaningful life, and individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are no different. More and more, people with ASD are working, living, and engaging in their communities, and are being recognized for their strengths and talents. Yet the questions still remain: What do young adults with ASD need to transition to being productive members of society whose skills and interests are used and valued? How can professionals, parents, advocates, and others ensure that a place in the world is carved out for these individuals? This conference will present new research and innovative models to spark a dialogue about current challenges and effective solutions to helping adults with ASD obtain and maintain work, social connections, and independence.
