Vista Participates in MADE Stronger Challenge

Madison’s MADE Stronger Challenge is in full swing! This community-wide, 6-week health and wellness challenge is hosted by Madison Alcohol and Drug Education Coalition (M.A.D.E.) and runs through March 30th. The challenge started 6 years ago and was previously run through the Madison Chamber of Commerce. At the time it was called The Madison Challenge and had a primary focus on local businesses. M.A.D.E. got involved as a sponsor and gave a donation so that youth in Madison could participate at no cost. Over the years it became a very community and family-focused event, and as a result, in 2013 M.A.D.E. became the organizer of the Challenge and rebranded it as The MADE Stronger Challenge.

As the challenge evolved the 5 main components became heart, mind, body, soul, and village. MADE Stronger is an opportunity to bring the shoreline community together, to lead by example and motivate each other to incorporate more health, fitness and well-being into daily living. The mission of MADE Stronger is to actively support a better quality of life by promoting and enjoying healthy attitudes, habits and lifestyles. The challenge is not just about losing weight, but is about implementing at least one healthier habit and embracing a lifestyle of wellness. Over the last few years M.A.D.E has had about 175 participants registered, along with a number of schools and organizations.

This year, Vista Vocational & Life Skills Center has a total of 103 participants in the MADE Stronger Challenge, including 35 staff and 68 students and members. Vista staff, students and members have been working together to develop realistic and sustainable goals such as getting 8 hours of sleep every night and drinking 7 glasses of water each day. Vista participants have also been able to challenge each other and hold each other accountable, working as a support system to help each other successfully reach these goals.
