Join Local Kids to Clean Up Guilford's Jacobs Beach

"Waves of Freedom" — in conjunction with Guilford's Clean Up Day — will host a beach clean-up event at Jacobs Beach on Saturday, May 3.

"Waves of Freedom" will host a beach clean-up event at Guilford's Jacobs Beach on Saturday, May 3, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

The event is being held in conjunction with Guilford's Clean Up Day.

All are welcome and encouraged to come to lend a hand, buy a baked good or T-shirt, or learn more about the importance of clean beaches.

Waves of Freedom

Waves of Freedom is an informal club, run by three 6th graders from Baldwin Middle School: Lily Riccio, Maggie Mandel and Elle Petra.

Their purpose is to keep local beaches clean and safe for both humans and animals through raising awareness and performing community clean up events.

More information can be found on their website.

A Place Called Hope

In addition to spending time cleaning up the beach, the May 3 event will include a visit from a volunteer from "A Place Called Hope," who will bring with them a bird of prey for a talk about the impact of beach trash on wildlife.

Bake Sale

In addition, the girls have organized a bake sale and will have T-shirts for sale.

All proceeds will go towards the Jacobs Beach renovation project.

This event will be similar to the clean up event they hosted on Oct. 18, when 22 of their friends gathered at Jacobs beach and filled eight bags of garbage, including a used diaper, an old towel, shoes, and lots of plastic.
