Tonight Brings Firelight Festival to Henry Whitfield Museum

Guilford will be filled with seasonal spirit tomorrow with this special event at the Henry Whitfield Museum

Tonight, Friday, November 30th, Henry Whitfield State Museum will chase away the shadows of past winters with bright lights at their Firelight Festival. From 4 PM until 8 PM, visitors can enjoy hot cocoa, mulled cider, and other seasonal goodies at the festival

"Gather around the fires and toast marshmellows, roast chestnuts, pop popcord and make s'mores," the press release invites. "Climb the steep and winding stairs of the Henry Whitfield House and catch a glimpse of the stark and primitive existence of the Puritans."

While you're at the event, you can also check out Holidaze: The Real Story of Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and exhibit that explores the myths and traditions of our holiday traditions. Visitors can also craft pine cone ornaments and play 17th-19th century games at the museum education center. If you're on the hunt for some holiday gifts for the history fan in your life, the museum center also offers unique reproductions, books, toys and CDs.

There will also be an opportunity to give back at the Museum. "Visitors are encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable food for the Guilford Food Bank; coins fo UNICEF or new, unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots," said the event's Press Release. "Thse gifts will be incorporated into the 'Holidaze' exhibit and passed on to the charities at the close of the program."
