Major Town Roads Slippery, but Passable; Guilford Requests Additional Payloaders

Here's the latest update from the Selectman's office this afternoon. Now that major roads are passable, the town is working on secondary and subdivision roads, but weather conditions are slowing down the process.

The following is a message from the First Selectman's office:

All major town roads are now passable, but please be advised that because of the rain, the roads are very slippery.  Please use extreme caution when driving.  The Public Works Department is making every effort to sand, but the weather conditions are making the roads slick.

Now that major roads have been made passable, the Town is working on secondary and subdivision roads. Weather conditions and the steepness of the grade of some roads requires that pay loaders and trucks work in tandem, which is slowing down the snow removal process.

Additional pay loaders have been requested from the State of Connecticut, and private contractors are aiding in clean-up efforts as they become available.

Assets have been deployed in every part of town and are working intensely to radiate out to make all road connections.  The possibility of collapsing roofs and drainage issues have, in some instances, forced town resources to be diverted from clean- up efforts in order to deal with those problems.

Please be assured that clean-up efforts will continue until all roads have been cleared.
