$10,000 Endowment Established for Guilford Non-Profit

The Guilford Foundation recently announced the establishment of its first Agency Endowment fund for the Women & Family Life Center. The endowment will provide a constant source of annual income to W&FLC.

Earlier this month, The Guilford Foundation established its first agency endowment for the Women and Family Life Center. The $10,000 endowment will provide designated funding for the non-profit organization, and will grow at a rate of 5.25% each year. This will provide a constant source of annual income to the W&FLC.

"We are really excited about having the opportunity to build this endowment and provide a source of funding for this organization," Liza Petra, Executive Director of the Guilford Foundation, told Guilford Patch. "We've also been able to do this from funds that already exist at the agency and adding from our general funds, so it won't detract from any of our regular funding.

According to the press release "The Guilford Foundation offered a match in funds to encourage WFLC to create a permanent endowment, and WFLC responded by securing a leadership gift from one of their long-time supporters."

"The W&FL has such a critical role in this community," Petra continued. "And they don't receive any state or federal funding, so they need to work for and campaign for every penny they get. As they get ready to celebrate their 25th anniversary in the coming years, we are pleased to help support the unique service they provide with a source of permanent funding."

These funds are also not designated to a particular service or program within the W&FLC, so the agency is able to use it as they need it.

The Guilford Foundation has also supported W&FLC in the past as well. In December 2011, W&FLC received a general grant from Guilford Foundation as well. They were awarded a $5,000 in support of their domestic violence program and the work they do around it.

This grant is the first of its kind that The Guilford Foundation has established.

"Currently, we don't have any others in the works," concluded Petra. "But we would love to work with other agencies that might be interested to help support their efforts."

As for now, The Guilford Foundation is reviewing seven strong applications for one of their quarterly grants. The deadline for the next batch of grant applications will be June 1.
