Beginning with archival images from both World War I & II up through the wars in the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan, this slide talk will take you through a brief history of the ways the garden has been understood in times of conflict, not only by the combatants, but by those struggling to survive. The showing of this documentary film coincides with the 50th anniversary of the publication of Silent Spring. Rachel Carson was a champion of the environment and her book created a new ecological consciousness. This documentary is based on the acclaimed book by ecologist and cancer survivor Sandra Steingraber. The film follows her personal journey as well as her scientific exploration.
