SHiFT Cycling Hosts Benefit Ride and Champagne Toast for OutRUN 38

In the spirit of shifting for good, SHiFT Cycling is hosting a benefit ride on Friday, July 18 for OutRUN 38, a  local organization dedicated to promoting healthy living and building awareness of Cystic Fibrosis (CF).  Founder Nicole Burke will co-teach the class with SHiFT Owner Jenn Kuehn, leading an epic hour long indoor cycling ride at the studio from 6 – 7 pm followed by a Champagne toast.  In lieu of paying for class, riders will donate a dollar for every mile peddled (approximately 15-20) to OutRun 38.

“One of our fellow SHiFters has been onboard with OutRUN 38 from the beginning.  She asked us to help support the cause.  The benefit ride is open to anyone in the community who wants to participate.  It’s a great way to spotlight OutRUN 38 and Cycstic Fibrosis while raising money and getting a fun workout,” said Jenn Kuehn, SHiFT Owner.  “We our psyched to expand our SHiFT community to include our new friends at OutRUN 38.  We are proud and inspired by this amazing partnership.”

OutRun38 was created by Nicole Burke in honor of her friend, Madison resident Elizabeth, (Liz) Shuman who was diagnosed with CF at age 7 and given a life expectancy of age 12.  Fast forward, at age 37 she is alive and thriving, something Liz credits her passion for running and its impact on her lungs and overall health.   Nicole created a Facebook page in April with the hopes of getting 180 runners to run 3800 miles to celebrate Liz’s 38th birthday this fall.  Within two weeks, 2000 people joined and to date they are at over 4000 members who have logged over 130,000 miles.

“OutRun 38 started out as something small to acknowledge Liz’s 3 turning 38.  It has become so much more. It has truly become a movement filled with positive energy.   Aside from the staggering number of members dedicated to logging their miles across the country in honor of Liz, we have been on TV on the Today Show and Fox News,” added Nicole.  “We appreciate the support of local businesses like SHiFT Cycling and are excited for the benefit ride on July 18th.  I especially look forward to the challenge of co-leading a spin class for the first time with Jenn. Come out and join us!”

The non-profit organization is working to build awareness of the disease organization through a number of outreach activities including the upcoming OutRUN 5K, a run scheduled for August 2 in Madison, selling sportswear and merchandise on their website and at select locations like SHiFT Cycling, and encouraging members to log their miles (running, swimming or biking) in honor of Liz and to promote awareness for CF.
