FDA Clears New AED Technology from Guilford-Based Defibtech

Guilford-based Defibtech just announced that their Lifeline AUTO AED, or automated external defibrillator, has been cleared for sale in the U.S. Initially developed and launched in their European Market back in 2009, Defibtech applied to FDA approval after U.S. customers and distributers expressed interest.

"The Lifeline AUTO is yet another innovation by Defibtech and a key member to the Lifeline family ofAEDs.  By providing customers the choice of a semi-automatic AED, the Lifeline, an automatic AED, the Lifeline AUTO and the only AED on the market that prompts the responder with video, audio and text instruction, the VIEW; we have AEDs that will fit every customer needs."

Defibtech's Lifeline PRO and the Lifeline ECG features color LCD video display and 3-lead ECG monitoring capability. AED's are designed to revive victims of sudden cardiac arrest. 

“With the addition of the Lifeline PRO and ECG AEDs, the entire family of Lifeline AEDs is now available in the U.S.,” said Defibtech CEO Dr. Glenn W. Laub in a press release. “There are excellent options for every customer, no matter the budget or the need. With sudden cardiac arrest such a common and foreseeable occurrence, all workplaces and public places should take the reasonable precaution of having at least one AED onsite.”

According to the Town of Guilford's Facebook page, the company is also currently seeking participants in a usability study. They posted the following message Monday:

GUILFORD BUSINESS NEEDS YOUR ASSISTANCE! Defibtech urgently needs help with a usability study. To participate in the study please contact Donna Grajauskas at 203-453-6654 x127 or donna@defibtech.com. The study will be conducted on Thursday, January 31 and Friday, February 1, from 8:30am - 5:00pm. 

The study will include a simulation of a cardiac emergency, during which the participant will need to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to "save" a "patient" (the patient will be a manikin). Each participant has to fit the criteria below: 
- Aged 18 to 75 years
- Have never used an AED, nor have been trained to use an AED
- Be willing to use an AED in an emergency

The study will take no more than 15 minutes, and each participant will receive $25.00. 

The location will be at the Defibtech office at 741 Boston Post Road in Guilford (Concept Park Office Building).
